Book #1: Lily Bowers and The Uninvited Guest

Lily Bowers is a 10 year old girl who discovers why she was put on this wonderful earth. With her new gift, she is able to save animals and someone close to her who is very, very ill.

In this first book of a middle-grade fantasy series, Lily struggles to find the strength and courage to do something meaningful. She's not alone though,  she has the help of her friends, old and new, two legs and more.

Lily's adventure combines fantasy, magic and compassion with the reality of preteen life
where building self-confidence and strengthening her friendships is vital.

4 Things You Need to Know About Lily Bowers

1. She can speak two languages and has 2 passports.
Lily spent the first half of her life in Colorado, USA. When she was 6, her father got a job he couldn't refuse in Germany and the family packed up and moved. Her dad's American, but her mom's German, so the switch wasn't too much of a challenge since she was already bilingual.

2. She has a special gift.
This talent enables her to find new friends and do things she never thought possible, such as getting even closer to nature.

3. She lives near a magical forest along the Grimm Brother's Fairy Tale Route in Germany.
Lily lives near Rheinhardswald (Wald = Forest in German) where Sleeping Beauty's castle stands tall and beautiful. Lily spends most of her time in the woods behind her house. She seems to know every nook and cranny, but what she doesn't know is that the forest has known Lily ever since she was born.

4. She has a pet turtle named Ralph.
Ralph was a 'Welcome to Germany' present from her dad. When Ralph was a baby, he made a lot of noise, which is pretty uncommon for a box turtle.

About Jess Lohmann, the Author

I was born and raised to love and respect all animals and nature. The forest was my backyard growing up on Long Island, New York and my family and I went on yearly camping trips to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature and spend quality time together. We also adopted dogs and cats and rescued, cared for and reintroduced wildlife in need back to where they belong.

In the summers of 2016 & 2017, I lost my mom (66) and dad (65).
Nature is helping me grieve and heal.

But nature is in trouble and needs our attention.

Lily Bowers and I have a lot in common.
Lily also learns that animals need a strong voice to help them survive
and live the happy life they deserve, without cruelty and fear.

She also knows that humans are not above animals or nature because there is no hierarchy in nature. And animals are not material objects we own. They are living beings who have feelings.

We are all created equal and every animal - humans included - deserves love and respect.

Are you also raising your child/ren to respect nature or know someone who is?

Children/preteens have a powerful voice and are the ones who
will create change and make this world a better place.
