About Lily

Jess’ Path

The circle of life makes this world go round.

It just doesn’t stop. And that’s a good thing.

What’s also a good thing is that humans have the power, resources and knowledge to protect all life on Earth.

That makes us special. And, it makes us responsible.

Protecting nature and saving species while sharing a deep ecological philosophy through the stories of Lily Bowers is why Jess is on this planet.

It’s what Mother Nature wants her to do.

A Word

From The Author

“As parents, we have the moral responsibility to keep the spirit of our children alive, healthy and happy. As humans, this extends to all sentient beings. Breaking the spirit of any animal goes against the laws of nature. Nature inspires. Nature heals. Nature needs our help. Mother Earth is calling upon us to respect ALL her children.”

– Jess Lohmann

SDGs

The Sustainable Development Goals

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were created by all 193 member states of the United Nations in 2015 to help improve the many global challenges we face today.

A 15-year plan was set to achieve all 17 goals. From combating poverty, illiteracy, climate change and inequality to restoring biodiversity, clean water and sanitation, economic growth, affordable energy, etc.

Many achievements have been made, but the work in local and national governments is very slow and so it is our responsibility as caring individuals to step up and help out.

We, the people, have the power to reach these goals through our businesses, volunteering, giving back, spreading awareness, etc.

The Lily Bowers book series aims to help individuals contribute to these SDGs:

UN Sustainable Development Goal #4: Quality Education
UN Sustainable Development Goal #13: Climate Action
UN Sustainable Development Goal #14: Life below water
UN Sustainable Development Goal #15: Life on land
UN Sustainable Development Goal #17: Partnerships for the goals

If we don’t get #13, 14 & 15 right, nothing else matters.

Humans need nature and animals in order to survive and thrive. If we continue to drive species into extinction and destroy entire ecosystems, we will drive our own species into extinction.

Mother Nature is resilient. Humans? Not so much!

Giving Back to Nature

As a former member of B1G1 and current member of 1% for the Planet and Doctors Against Animal Experiments, Jess has pledged to help protect nature and animals.

Some of the projects funded included:

  • 196 days of access to a solar lantern for families in India
  • 34 trees to be planted in Kenia, Indonesia and Borneo
  • The security of 2m2 of the Daintree rainforest in Australia
  • The disposal of 1 kg of coastal plastic trash in Indonesia
  • 20 bars of soap to be recycled in order to reduce waste in landfills in Indonesia
  • 1 day of tracking and studying the endangered Australian saltwater crocodile
  • 591 days of rabies vaccines for street animals in Nepal
  • 8 education programs to learn about proper animal care and protection in Nepal
  • 8 horticulture training sessions to children in India

Education & Themes

Facilities and Organizations

• To address the heavy topic of animal testing in a light way by adding a human touch.

• Magical realism genre – its fantasy aspects (communicating with Mother Nature and animals) and realistic topics geared toward the day in the life of preteens such as starting a new school, how to deal with bullying, the importance of friendship and collaborations as well as gaining self-confidence. Themes also add in global citizenship, empathy and sustainability.

• A deep ecological philosophy in that humans are not above nature, instead we’re a part of the circle of life.

Fitting reading material to combine with social, environmental-related topics (i.e. PSHE curriculum – UK).
